Those "shark fins" were exactly that.
That car came to Argentina from Italy in a ship, that took it to the southest part of the country, Ushuaia, in Tierra del Fuego. Take a look at the map, that's far, VERY far south.
It was took there, as the importation of cars was banned, but the owner had a contact there, and the customs office will let the car go...and that is what happened.
Just as a souvenir first, and then to prevent insects to go to the front windshield, the owner fitted that for racing. It was very successful, as the races were on long distances, and those 2 fins really prevented the insects to go directly to the windshield.

Ik begrijp hieruit dat er dus GEEN plexiglas op zat maar dat ze als een soort windsplitters werkten waardoor de insecten niet op de ruit geplet werden...

Dat maak ik er ook uit op (dus ik zat maar vaagjes in de buurt), het zijn dus een soort wind deflectoren die zo goed werken dat je zonder voorruit rijden kan

Klopt, enige haven daar in de buurt. Ik had er tot de vorige Volvo Ocean race nooit van gehoord, tot de Spaanse boot (met schipper Bouwe Bekking) in de buurt van Kaap Hoorn water begon te maken en naar Ushuaia moest voor reparaties.
