Camshaft adjustment 1,8turbo

Anyone has a good instruction on how to get this right?
Tried to set both camshafts on their marks so they align to the marks on the cam bearing, but then the engine wont run as it should.
Before i tried to adjust, the exhaust cam was a little bit off from the mark, about 1 touth or so.

Also want to know what mark you guys use on the front. P, F or what? After what i can read in the workshop manual i should set the engine to the mark F.

Seen from the flywheel side(behind to front) Should the exhaust be before or after its mark? Same with intake..

Hope anyone can guide me a little her....

Hi Bob,
P=TDC you need this to adjust your camshafts.
F = about 9 degrees advance for ignition
M= Max advance say 30+ degrees (which a turbo will never reach)

So try to adjust every thing on the P and the camhafts on the marks on the bearing caps.
If you still have problems then, name your camshaftnumbers and post a photo of youre camshaft bearingcap as there are 2 different caps.

It could be that someone tried to move the cams a few degrees to alter the engine characteristics. Also, it could be that non-standard cams were fitted that need other timing. If it was running fine before, don't change the settings until you know what type of cams you are running. Andretti Molletti already asked for the ID numbers on the cams, let's hope they didn't re-grind other cams and left those numbers in. That would make things very confusing.

Thanks guys! I will open up the top later tonight and post a photo..
Forget to say this, but this is a 2,0 with turbo.. Andretti already know this, so i think he know what i mean.
At least one of the cams was out of position.

Because Alfa never made a 2,0 turbo except of the Turbo Delta that came with carburettors.
The camshaft adjustment has to be for 1,8l since the volum is 2,0 but everything else is from 1,8l
Camshafts are the same for 2,0 and 1,8.. So, therefor i asked for adjustments for 1,8 since there has never been a 2,0 so people would not understand what i asked for if i wrote 2,0 turbo.
Worst case they would understand it to be a 2,0 V6 turbo.. :)

1.8 turbo camshafts are actually different from normally aspirated ones... :wink: The timing marks for the right position of the crank and camshafts are the same however.

Are you using the normal 2.0 pistons and compression?
